For those of you who do not know, a wedding is a legal ceremony that commences a union between two people; these days it is no longer required for the partners to be of the opposite sex. Whilst the ceremony may occur in a church or other religious place the marriage is not recognized until the legal duties are performed; the legal act of marriage only occurs once the signing a marriage license or other legal document is complete. When some couples decide to get married in another country, they are known as destination weddings; the definition of a destination wedding is flexible as you don't actually have to leave your country for it to qualify, just so it isn't in your home town.

Weekend weddings are becoming popular and in Ireland they take place over the course of three days. Other occasions come under the term of either themed or special activity which usually takes place over a weekend period. Lodging is usually at the same facility and couples often host a Sunday brunch for the weekend's finale.

Although unusual, you can even get married online and it will resemble a normal wedding or you can even have characters of yourselves get married; internet companies specializing in this type of ceremony are there to help you with your marriage. An internet or online wedding can also refer to a situation where a couple may broadcast their marriage to friends and family in other parts of the world.

 Civil Ceremonies Civil weddings have to be carried out by a local justice of the peace, judge, even a mayor can carry out the ceremony and most places out side of a church will use one of these people. These ceremonies do not normally make any reference to God as they are a legal ceremony only. Owing to the brevity of these ceremonies, the persons getting married do not mind if they are carried out in a city hall or even a courtroom.
